Frequently asked questions

How do I clean a transcript online?
Paste transcript text or upload .txt, .srt, or .vtt files. Choose capitalization (sentence case, title case, and more) and toggles for labels, timestamps, and spacing. Copy the cleaned text or download a .txt file. Batches can be exported individually or as a ZIP archive.
Is this transcript cleaner free?
Yes. This tool is completely free with no account, card, watermark, or desktop software install required.
Are my transcripts uploaded to a server?
No. Cleaning runs locally in your browser. Your transcript files and exported text are not sent to Vidsembly or any third-party server.
What does sentence case do?
Sentence case lowercases words and capitalizes the first letter after sentence endings such as periods and question marks. Use it when auto transcripts arrive in ALL CAPS or random mixed case from speech-to-text exports.
Can I remove speaker labels and inline timestamps?
Yes. Enable Strip speaker labels to remove prefixes like [Host] or SPEAKER 1:. Enable Strip inline timestamps to remove markers such as [00:01:22] that sometimes appear inside exported dialogue.
Will pasted SRT files keep timing codes?
When Extract dialogue from SRT is on and the content looks like standard SRT, cue numbers and timing lines are removed so you get readable text. Use the SRT to TXT converter when you only need extraction without extra cleanup, or TXT to SRT when you are ready to rebuild captions.
Can I clean multiple transcript files at once?
Yes. Upload several files in one session. Each file uses the same options, and you can download cleaned files individually or together in a ZIP.

About this tool

When to clean a transcript before publishing

Speech-to-text and subtitle exports often include speaker tags, odd line breaks, and inconsistent capitalization. Cleaning once saves time when the same transcript becomes show notes, a blog post, an LMS handout, and social quotes. You keep the meaning while the text reads like intentional copy.

Capitalization for readable show notes

Auto captions may uppercase entire cues or leave mid-sentence breaks. Sentence case restores normal reading flow for newsletters and documentation. Title case helps when you need headings pulled from dialogue. Keep original casing when names, acronyms, or product terms must stay exact.

Labels, timestamps, and filler words

Interview workflows add bracketed names and time markers that help editors but distract readers. Optional stripping removes those artifacts while paragraph breaks stay intact. Filler-word removal is aggressive by design: turn it on for draft polish, then read the output aloud before you ship.

Pair with SRT to TXT and TXT to SRT

Start with SRT to TXT when captions are your source file. Clean the plain text here for articles and search. When the script changes, edit the TXT and rebuild subtitles with TXT to SRT. If timing is wrong but words are right, use SRT Time Shifter instead of retyping cues.

Private browser-based transcript cleanup

Draft lessons, client interviews, and unreleased episodes often live in transcript files long before publish. This cleaner runs in your browser so you can normalize text without routing sensitive dialogue through an unknown upload queue.
